A BASE to Experience the Benefits of Negative Ions by Hiking on a Scenic Waterfall Trail
A BASE as if the sky showers you with heavenly water! 40-minute into a pleasant hike along the mountain trail and I felt the droplets of water flying in the air. I looked up and there it was - Tendaki Falls in its splendour cascading down from above! It was a delightful hike to immerse in nature and soak in the negative ions, where I crossed a charming red bridge and listened to the soothing sounds of water.

A BASE Where You Can Go When You Feel Like Exploring a Different World in Cool Underground Environments
Passing through the iron door, we descended into the chilly depths of the earth! It was as if we had stepped into another world. We explored tunnels sprawling like an ant farm along the railroad tracks. It took just under an hour to explore the mysterious tunnels which are often used a filming location. Being there was a delightful escape from the city's hustle and bustle, and it definitely was the perfect place for a mental detox.

A BASE Where You Can Explore the Universe Guided by a Star Sommelier
Under the guidance of a star sommelier, I learned about the universe and journeyed through constellations and nebulae using a large telescope. If you bring an SLR camera, you can attach it to the telescope and take photos, capturing details like moon craters. You can also attach your smartphone camera to the telescope for breathtaking photos of astronomical bodies. It was a BASE where I could enjoy listening, observing, and capturing images of the universe.

A BASE Where You Can Eat Soba Noodles in a Castle Town Overlooking Traditional Townhouses
Looking up from seats partitioned off like private rooms, the ceiling replicates the windows and moon of Izushi's castle town. We savored soba served on five plates in this specially designed space. They advised us to eat quickly as the flavor changes fast, and so we did just that. Selecting condiments and eggs swiftly while eating made the soba not just delicious but also an experience in itself.

A BASE to Visit When You Want to Take Home Memories of Your Trip
I always associated sansho (Japanese prickly ash) with eels... until I discovered the Asakura Prickly Ash section at the Michi-no-Eki (roadside station) and all the sansho sweets, dressings, and soft-serve ice cream they were offering. Never in my life had I tasted that kind of sweetness and freshness of sansho. They also had tsukudani (food boiled in soy sauce) and curry made with Yatsuka pork, and eating them when I was already back home made me feel like I was still on that luxurious trip.
