Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi
A BASE to Discover the Essence of Nara's History by Making Its Specialty, "Kakinoha-Zushi"
Immerse yourself in the art of making Nara's renowned delicacy, Kakinoha-zushi, a kind of sushi that is delicately wrapped in persimmon leaf. Choose salmon and mackerel and then wrap the sushi in a large persimmon leaf, paying attention to the underside and intricate veins of the leaf, and the size of the rice grains as you pack them snugly into a wooden box. It tastes even better when you discover the rich history behind this handcrafted delight.

Tenri Stamina Ramen
Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi
A BASE Where You Can Taste the Comforting Ramen That Students Keep Coming Back for at the Street Stall
The comfort food of Nara, this ramen first graced the streets of Tenri City in 1980 through a food stall. Fondly known as "Ten-Sta" among students, its allure persists till this day, with the stall open well into the night. With a generous portion of stewed Chinese cabbage and a creamy, pork bone-based broth, it promises to be a meal of relaxation and rejuvenation. Pair it with Spam rice balls for a doubly satisfying culinary experience, warming both body and soul.

Saika Ramen
Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi
A BASE to Indulge in the Original Spicy Tenri Ramen at an Iconic Food Stall
Founded in 1968 in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, this ramen shop started as a food stall. The original stall is still in business today, so I visited here for an authentic experience. Their soy sauce-based ramen, generously garnished with tender Chinese cabbage and fiery "ra-jang" (hot sauce), stands as a quintessential comfort food for Nara's residents, providing them with the vigor to tackle the day ahead.

Nakanishi Peanuts
Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi
A BASE to Find the Perfect Accompaniment for Your Evening Drink
Along the Tenri Kaido Road, there awaits a colossal peanut sculpture that marks the entrance to Nakanishi Peanuts. Step inside to explore an array of bean confectionery products on display. With approximately 11 varieties of my favorite kaki no tane (spicy rice crackers and peanuts) to choose from, the decision proved to be challenging. I opted for a regular and an extra spicy one to complement my evening drinks back at the hotel. Don't miss out on the opportunity to savor the delectable maple and nut ice cream right there at the store!
