A BASE to Soothe Your Soul with the Clear Water
This natural spring water has always supported the lives of local people since the old days. It is no longer used for daily water supply. However, it has become an iconic town site, and its name is used as such in the Sogi sui Jinsai Festival of the Gujo Odori Festival! The sight of the atmospheric cityscape unfolding around the flow of crystal-clear water is refreshing to the mind.

A BASE to Feel at Ease Simply Sinking into Relaxation to the Flowing Water
This pathway is a symbol of Gujo Hachiman, the city of water. The Igawa Komichi is an irrigation canal that runs behind the private houses. Carp and other river fish swim here, watermelons are cooled here in the summer, and there are even communal laundry places. Here, the water blends into a landscape of the living of the old days, creating a charming, nostalgic feel, surely to ease your heart.

A BASE to Fuel Up on the World's Top Gourmet Food on a Fun Night Out
This exquisite pizza took first place in a competition in Italy. Choose toppings like wild vegetables and venison that are unique to Gujo on the hot stone oven pizza. The chewy dough and tender venison makes it easy to finish the whole pie yourself. This is the kind of restaurant that will satisfy both your stomach and your heart on a fun night out.

The Versatile World of Tofu - A BASE to Feed Your Body and Soul
Oku-no-Oku is located on the upper reaches of Kurusu-gawa River that flows into Nagara-gawa River. As I got closer to the restaurant and heard the sound of the river, I seemed to forget the hectic pace of everyday life. There are handmade tofu dishes and fresh yuba (tofu skin) that you scoop up yourself. I relaxed by the warm sunken hearth and felt my body and soul fulfilled.

Between the Sky and Nature - A BASE With a Sense of Dignity and History
Also known as "the most beautiful mountain castle in Japan," this imposing structure stands guard over the castle town of Gujo Hachiman. Even on the way to the castle, there is a sense of the sacred. With the mountains stretching as far as the eye can see and the castle rising silently, there is a sense of dignity and respect that is inspiring.

A BASE to Enjoy Local Cuisine with a Quaint Ambiance
This is a place to enjoy charming local cuisine with the clear stream of Yoshida-gawa River flowing in front of you. The miso used in the signature dish, Hoba Miso Meal Set, is made in the basement, a tradition that has been passed down for more than 100 years. The sweet, miso-covered meat tastes so good you can eat several bowls of rice! No wonder the local community has loved this restaurant for so long.

Sample Village IWASAKI
Gifu Gujo
A BASE to be Inspired Like a Child
"I had no idea you could do that with wax!"—the sample-making experience is full of surprises. Dripping it carefully, spreading it thin, mixing the colors...feel the excitement of wondering what you can make as if you're back as a kid again. Food samples are a unique part of Japanese culture and I was amazed to hear it has a history of over 80 years.

Gujo Ikoi Cafe Tomoya
Gifu Gujo
A Cozy BASE to Enjoy Cute and Popular Desserts Loved by Locals
Enjoy taiyaki with soft serve all in one. What a dream combo! I picked the red bean paste filling for the taiyaki and topped it with soft serve ice cream. It is crispy on the outside and goes great with the soft serve! To top it off, the heart-shaped monaka (traditional Japanese thin crispy wafers made from mochi) give it a cute look. It is the perfect way to get a sugar fix for an exhausted body after a long day of walking. This warm and cozy restaurant, a local favorite, also offers Obanzai lunch on select days of the week.
