Arahira Tenjin Shrine
Kagoshima Sakurajima
A BASE to Stay When You Want to Calm Your Mind in a Mystical Space
Arahira Tenjin Shrine is located on a rocky hill jutting out into the sea. The sandy approach to the shrine is a mysterious and calming space that sinks into the sea at high tide and gives way at low tide. The worship hall is a bit of a challenge to reach, climbing steep stairs relying on ropes! At this spot, view the blue sky and the all-over blue of the sea in the morning, or since this spot is on the west side, come at sunset.

Kagoshima Sakurajima
A BASE Where to Feel Stars and the Universe Close to You
Located on a hill 550 meters above sea level, the observatory offers a vast 360-degree panoramic view of Kinko's Bay, Sakurajima, and the Kirishima mountain range. The park provides an environment for camping and stargazing. In particular, at the Tenkyukan, visitors can relax while looking at observation photos and thinking about the stars and the universe. You can also observe the stars through a large astronomical telescope.

Arimura Lava Observatory
Kagoshima Sakurajima
A BASE Where You Can Get Vitality from an Active Volcano
The Arimura Lava Observatory is located near Minamidake, an active volcano. The volcanic fumes rising from the volcano are very powerful! The lava field and Japanese black pines spreading all over the area gave me a sense of the volcano's wild history and the power of nature. Walking along the 1-km-long promenade, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Sakurajima and Kinko Bay.

A BASE Where You Can Relax in a Natural Footbath With a View of Sakurajima in Front of You
Michi-no-Eki (roadside station) are indispensable for travelers. Here at Yuttarikan, the hot spring facility and free footbath offer a panoramic view of Sakurajima and help you ease the fatigue of driving. It is recommended that you eat a cold loquat soft cream while warming yourself in the footbath! The powerful volcanic fumes of Sakurajima will give you energy, and you can enjoy a bowl of rice topped with seafood, such as yellowtail and amberjack at the restaurant. Here, you can enjoy many attractions of Kagoshima without going elsewhere.

Kagoshima Sakurajima
A BASE to Go When You Want to be Healed by the Sweetness of Fluffy Shaved Ice and Condensed Milk
A restaurant that has been in business for 54 years. It has a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere. Here, you can eat Kagoshima's specialty "Shirokuma," a large bowl of fluffy shaved ice with plenty of condensed milk and seasonal fruits. Their version is a little creamier than the other restaurants because it has ice cream inside! Its gentle sweetness soaks into your body. They also have "Kurokuma" with condensed milk and chocolate.

Seafood and Sandwich Restaurant Harapeko
Kagoshima Sakurajima
A BASE to Go When You Want to Fill up with Homemade Sandwiches
Harapeko sells seafood bowls and sandwiches. Their food is prepared in the restaurant using plenty of ingredients from Kagoshima Prefecture. Their sauces are also homemade, and the cream in their dessert sandwiches is not too sweet, which is a delight! I was pleased with their voluminous and delicious sandwiches that were reasonably priced! My heart and stomach are satisfied.
