A BASE Where Cat Lovers Want to Visit at Least Once to Truly Appreciate Cats
It is said that Kotohira Shrine is the only shrine in Japan that has guardian cats instead of guardian dogs. It is popularly known as "Kompira-san" among the local people. There are many illustrations and figurines of cats in the precincts of the shrine, so have fun walking around looking for your favorite ones. Unfortunately, we could not see any real cats.

A BASE That Reminds You of Your Childhood, Somehow Nostalgic Even Though You Are Here for the First Time
The Ine Boathouses is a 30-minute drive from Amanohashidate, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. The town is lined with boathouses that look as if they are floating on the sea. Take your time and stroll around town, or ride on a sightseeing boat to view the scenery from the sea. If you go to the Michi-no-Eki (roadside station), you can also see the boathouses from the top. See the daily lives of the fishermen and residents there, such as laundry, fishing boats, and fishing equipment.

A BASE Where You Are Sure to Find Delicious Sweets That Make You Happy
Steamed buns and monaka of guardian cats are sold at the very long-established confectionery store in the vicinity of the Kotohira Shrine. The confectioneries, conceived as part of the "Cat Project," were created after trial and error by the pastry chefs. You will surely want to tell someone about the guardian cats at this shrine with the sweets, saying, "This shrine has guardian cats."

Wet Type? Dry Type? A BASE Where You Want to Pursue Your Preference
Curry yakisoba is the comfort food of Miyazu City. The yakisoba comes in a variety of unique styles, from the wet type with a lot of broth to the dry type with no broth, and the taste varies from restaurant to restaurant. The slightly wet type at Itonaka, an old-fashioned restaurant in the town, has spiciness inside a mild seasoning that you can't stop eating.

Manai-jinja Shrine

A BASE Where Your Heart Purifies, Surrounded by Prayer, and Your Back Straightens Naturally
Walking up the mountain from Kono Shrine while listening to the sound of the river will bring you to Manai-jija Shrine, the inner sanctuary of the shrine. Passing through the torii gate and entering a quiet forest, I found that the air had changed. The precinct of the shrine was filled with dignified silence, and each step up the stairs gave me a mysterious feeling as if my mind was becoming purified.

A BASE Where You Can Pamper Yourself by Eating a Seafood Bowl for Breakfast
A restaurant directly operated by a fresh fish wholesaler in a retro alley. The fish they serve is so fresh that you may want to ask, "Have you just caught it?" I usually would order the boiled or grilled fish set meal for breakfast. But I spoiled myself and had a seafood bowl in the morning since I thought, "I'm on a vacation, so why not?"
